ATHENS AND THE SARONIC ISLANDS: BEST TIPS AND YACHT CHARTER ITINERARY

Saronic Gulf is close and safe, easy sailing in Greece. Hydra, Aegina, Poros, Spetses… plenty of interesting islands to see..and plenty of interesting points and historical landmarks. Also plenty of beaches and anchoring bays.

Vacations are the best time to unwind. You should go on a vacation with little things in mind: just the wish to have fun and relax. That's exactly why sailing in Greece has been getting more and more popular.

Whether you're looking for a special skippered yacht charter from Athens or you're just planning a regular sailing trip, we have the best information for you. We'll talk a bit about the destinations and also give you some tips to have fun and never forget the summer when you visited Greece.

Destinations to visit

1. Athens

Athens is the most famous town in Greece and you can visit a bunch of monuments, works of nature and beautiful beaches, as well as eat a few nice things. Let's go over some of the important places you need to check out. Also, it is very important to say that there is a lot of yacht charter in Athens.

The Ancient Agora of Athens is probably one of the best places you can visit to enter the true vibe you'll carry around for the rest of your holiday. It's an agora located northwest from the Acropolis and it's made from marble.

It has been built in 6th century BC, during the classical era, but the investigation and the excavations started in 1931 and they are still going on. You can find all of the things that have been dug up in a museum that we'll also mention a few paragraphs later.

The Acropolis is probably the most popular place you will visit. It is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above Athens. The famous Parthenon is inside of the complex and you'll notice that it is pretty old as well: 5th century BC was the time of building.

The previously mentioned Parthenon, found in the complex, is worth a few sentences as well. It's a classical temple made in 447 BC and it is famous for its big dimensions: 14 m in height, 30 in length, and 20 in width.

The Acropolis Museum is the place you want to check out if you want to see all of the excavations archaeologists found in this area. If you're usually into museums, the National Archaeological Museum could do the job as well. It would be a shame if you went to the Acropolis, but didn't visit this. If you are looking for yacht charter Athens is very popular.

Plaka is a simple shopping street you'll probably run into when you're in Athens. You can buy souvenirs there and enjoy the looks of it. Many people say that it's not the cheapest place to buy stuff because of its popularity, but it's the memory that counts, right?

If you're more into nature, Mount Lycabettus does the job. There are walking tours you can go to as well! Other significant things worth mentioning are the Temple of Hephaestus, the Panathenaic Stadium, the Herod Atticus Odeon, and the Ancient Agora of Athens.

Since Athens can be a bit overwhelming, we would suggest you find a local to help you around. It would be helpful to read a bit about the history of the town since things will make much more sense. We are sure you will find a reliable yacht charter in Athens and make your summer unforgettable.

2. Hydra

There are many popular landmarks on this island as well, and we're starting with Lazaros Koundouriotis Mansion, which is now a National Historical Museum. You can enjoy spectacular views and wonderful paintings. Also, bareboat sailing is very important in Greece in summer.

Next up we have the Mount Eros. You'll have to work your way up there, but the view you're getting will show you that it pays off. Bring hiking shoes is possible!

If you're looking for a nice place where you can take a swim, Saint Nicholas Beach would be the right one to check out. It's one of the best-secluded beaches this islands have and you will enjoy the fact that it is quiet.

We also got the Historical Archive (Museum of Hydra), where you can learn all about the history of the islands, but you can also see a huge number of artifacts.

3. Spetses

One place worth mentioning here is the Bouboulina's Museum. It's a family-owned museum that opened up in 1991 and it says a lot about the heroine of the Greek War of Independence. You should check out the wonderful gardens as well. There are routes in 18 languages.

The Ayia Paraskevi Beach is a place you should check out if you like a tranquil setting. It's a simple beach alongside a restaurant. Then we have the Bekiri Cave, a really wonderful place, but it isn't a destination for kids, really. It is a very popular location to visit on bareboat sailing in Greece.

4. Poros

Poros is a pretty specific island with a lot of nice things to see. The Clock Tower is one of them. Great views and it's also a pretty nice chance to take a walk. Love Bay is a piece of heaven, as many states. Tranquil nature and beautiful clear sea will astonish you.

Tips for sailing these areas

This whole area (The Saronic and the Argolic, as well as the eastern coast near the islands) is a protected area and it's great for beginners as well as those who are more advanced, as there are plenty of opportunities to sail away from the open sea.

The Argolic Gulf and Hydra will have some winds from the southeast and Meltemi happen occasionally, but they're not too wild. The average temperature is about 25-34 degree's Celsius, which makes the area very good for any water activity.

The area is about 3000 years old on average and this means that there are a bunch of monuments and landmarks on the area. Be sure to find reliable Yacht charter in Athens and make your sailing in Greece unforgettable!

The cuisine of this area is great as well. You can eat the horiatiki salata (made from tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, feta cheese) or the melitzanosalata (a salad made out of eggplants). The dessert called baklava (a syrup cake) will tie the whole things together and help you fully enjoy your trip.

Have fun and enjoy your trip: we are sure you'll want to come back to bareboat sailing in Greece!
